Every week has its own small story. There is the walk in the rain, the dinner that went well and the friend who dropped in. Most of these moments are forgotten, unless a few pictures remind you of them. A small collection made at the end of the week keeps the story together. It takes very little time and is rather satisfying.
Choose a day, perhaps Sunday evening, to look back over the pictures from the past week. Go through them slowly and notice which ones make you smile. A slightly blurred picture of a happy moment can matter more than a perfect one of nothing. Mark the ones you like and leave the rest for now.
Choosing a small number
A handful of pictures is enough to tell the story of a week. Try to include different kinds of pictures: a wide view, a close detail and a picture with people in it. This variety makes the collection feel like a real story, with a beginning, a middle and an end. If two pictures look almost the same, keep only the better one.
Put the pictures in order, from the start of the week to the end. Often the order tells a story of its own, from a quiet Monday to a lively weekend. Give the collection a simple name, such as a wet week in September. A clear name makes it easy to find again. Keep all the weekly collections together in one place.
Tidy up the rest of the week's pictures while you are at it. Delete the ones that are blurred, dark or accidental. Keep a few extra ones that you like but that did not make the collection. Your phone will stay light, and you will always know where your best pictures are. The whole job takes a cup of tea and a comfortable chair.
After a few months you will have a growing set of weekly collections. Looking back through them is like reading a diary made of pictures. You will be surprised how much you have already forgotten. The small, ordinary weeks often turn out to be the ones you enjoy most. It is a gentle habit that rewards you again and again.
